Loose hinges, alignment, humidity, frame movement or an actually warped slab can produce similar symptoms, so inspect the clearances and hinge condition first.

• Step 1: Check hinge screws: Remove the short 3/4-inch screws securing the top hinge leaf to the wall frame.
• Step 2: Install structural 3-inch screws: Drive a heavy 3-inch wood screw through the hinge plate deep into the structural 2x4 stud behind the drywall. This draws the hinge pocket tight against the wall framing, lifting the sagging latch edge up by several millimeters.
• Step 3: Minor hinge shim adjustment: If the door still rubs on the hinge jamb side, slipping a thin cardboard or plastic shim behind the bottom hinge plate realigns the swing angle without trimming painted edges.

2. Adjusting Sagging European Kitchen Cabinet Hinges

Modern Euro-style concealed hinges (Blum, Salice, or IKEA Utrusta) feature three built-in eccentric adjustment screws. Understanding which adjustment controls each axis can resolve many alignment problems when the hinge and cabinet are otherwise undamaged:

• Horizontal screw (front screw): Moves the door left or right to equalize vertical gaps between adjacent cabinet faces.
• Depth screw (back screw): Moves the door in or out to make the door flush with the cabinet box.
• Vertical screws (top/bottom mounting plate screws): Loosening these allows you to slide the entire door up or down into perfect alignment.
