1. The Boiling Water & Dish Soap Flush
If your drain is running slowly due to grease buildup from frying pans, a concentrated hot rinse is often all it takes to melt the blockage away.
- Boil a full kettle of water (approx. 1.5 to 2 liters).
- Squirt 2 tablespoons of grease-cutting liquid dish soap down the drain.
- Slowly pour the boiling water directly down the drain opening in 3 steady stages.
2. Baking Soda & Vinegar Natural Foam Reaction
Avoid harsh corrosive chemical drain cleaners that damage PVC pipes and ruin stainless steel finishes. Instead, use natural fizzy oxidation:
- Pour 1/2 cup of dry baking soda into the drain opening.
- Follow immediately with 1 cup of white household vinegar.
- Cover the drain plug tight with a wet rag or stopper for 15 minutes while it fizzes.
- Flush with hot tap water to wash away dissolved organic residue.
3. Plunging with the Correct Technique
Make sure you use a standard cup-shaped sink plunger (not a toilet plunger with an extended inner flange). Fill the sink with 2 inches of warm water to submerge the cup edge, seal over the drain opening, and plunge up and down firmly 10 to 15 times to create hydraulic suction.

If you have a double-basin kitchen sink, cover the second drain with a wet cloth or rubber stopper while plunging. Otherwise, air pressure will just pop out the other side!
